Dunes PGA equipment guide
Which Qi4D is right for your swing?
Four different heads, each designed to solve a different problem. Here is the jargon-free version, plus what we have learned from fitting golfers at Dunes.
Start with what you need
Four heads. Four different jobs.
This is a useful starting point, not a substitute for testing. Swing speed, strike, delivery and the shaft can all change which head performs best.

Manufacturer specifications translated into the measurements golfers actually use to make a sensible first comparison.
| Model | Launch | Spin | Forgiveness | Adjustability | Best starting point for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qi4D Max Lite | High | Mid | High | 1 weight | the driver feels hard work to swing or a lighter overall build could help you create more clubhead speed |
| Qi4D Max | High | Mid | Highest | 2 weights | you want help keeping more drives in play and retaining performance when you miss the centre |
| Qi4D | Mid–high | Mid–low | High | 4 weights | you want a strong blend of speed, launch, spin control and forgiveness rather than sitting at either extreme |
| Qi4D LS | Mid | Ultra-low | Moderate | 2 weights | you already create enough launch and speed but your spin is costing distance or producing an overly high flight |
Comparison uses TaylorMade's published 2026 specifications. View the manufacturer information.
Plain-English guidance
Which Qi4D should you try?
There is no “best” head for everybody. The useful question is which combination gives your swing the best launch, spin and dispersion.
Effortless speed
Qi4D Max Lite
Make speed feel easier
Consider this if: the driver feels hard work to swing or a lighter overall build could help you create more clubhead speed
The lightest head, shaft and grip package in the Qi4D family. It combines a high-launching, confidence-inspiring shape with less overall weight to help the right golfer swing faster.
Worth knowing: Lighter is not automatically faster or easier to control. We still need to check strike, speed and dispersion.
Forgiveness first
Qi4D Max
Confidence and consistency
Consider this if: you want help keeping more drives in play and retaining performance when you miss the centre
A larger, confidence-inspiring shape with high launch and strong stability. Two movable weights allow the fitter to prioritise forgiveness or tune ball flight and spin.
Worth knowing: Forgiveness helps golfers at every level, but the Max may launch or spin too much for some deliveries.
The adjustable all-rounder
Qi4D
The broadest fitting toolbox
Consider this if: you want a strong blend of speed, launch, spin control and forgiveness rather than sitting at either extreme
The standard Qi4D combines a modern 460cc shape with four movable weights. That gives the fitter considerable scope to tune launch, spin and shot shape around your delivery.
Worth knowing: More settings do not mean you should keep changing them yourself. A measured starting setup is more useful than constant guesswork.
Lowest spin
Qi4D LS
Speed without excess spin
Consider this if: you already create enough launch and speed but your spin is costing distance or producing an overly high flight
The fastest, lowest-spinning head in TaylorMade's published comparison, with a more compact appearance and a mid-launching flight. It is designed for golfers whose delivery genuinely suits less spin.
Worth knowing: Too little spin can reduce carry and make poor strikes less predictable. LS is not a badge of ability. It is a launch-condition decision.
What fitting has taught us
The Dunes verdict.
Practical observations from fitting real golfers. It is not a claim that the same setup will work for everyone.
Reducing the right-hand miss
“If your usual miss is out to the right, one option we often test is a 9° Qi4D Max lofted up towards 11°. Adding loft also closes the face, and we have seen that make a real difference for golfers who struggle with that damaging shot to the right.”
Do not choose from handicap alone
“A better player does not automatically need the LS, and a higher-handicap golfer does not automatically need the Max. Strike, launch and spin tell us far more than the number on your handicap certificate.”
